The athlete from Monaguense María Domínguez won a gold medal and two bronze medals for Venezuela in the powerlifting discipline at the 2024 Ayacucho Bicentennial Games, while the also from Monaguense Ángel Rodríguez, who won a silver medal for Venezuela in weightlifting, came in second place in the total in the 81-kilogram division.

Domínguez, who won the title of world champion in 2017, came second overall in the middleweight division (57-63 kg), where she won gold in the bench press event, with a total of 23.80 points, leaving Kenia Monserrate (Ecuador) with the silver with 21.48, and Javiera Contador (Chile) with the bronze with 20.41.

The Monaguense won the bronze medals in the squat and deadlift modalities, where the Ecuadorian Monserrate took the gold medals and took first place in the division with 96.86 points, only ahead of Domínguez, who had 95.81 points, and left Contador in third place with 95.07.

Venezuela is in third place in the overall medal table of these games, which are held from November 28 to December 8, as part of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Ayacucho and the Independence of Peru. In total, more than 1,300 athletes from seven countries participate in 22 sports and 33 disciplines.
