The United States National Weather Service (NWS) reported that it maintains winter alerts affecting more than 60 million people in the Northeast of the country, following the start of an intense snowstorm that hits the region after the Christmas holidays.

Official forecasts warn of accumulations of up to 20 centimeters in metropolitan areas such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, accompanied by ice and low temperatures that increase the risk on roads and public spaces.

Authorities recommend limiting travel due to potential power outages and complications at airports and major highways. The phenomenon coincides with one of the periods of greatest annual mobility, which reinforces the need for preventive measures, Digital Media reported.

According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the magnitude of the expected snowfall had not been recorded in these cities for more than three years, a situation that has led to the activation of emergency plans and the intervention of institutions throughout the affected area.
