The Juan Pedro Posani National Museum of Architecture (MUSARQ) extended the invitation to the exhibition of collages Disrupted Times: Fragments of Urban Memory, created by the artist Carmen Michelena.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the curator of the work Carlos Servando García highlighted that “the curatorial proposal Disrupted Times focuses on a library of ideas that invites us to explore the relationship between our inner stories and the perception of the outside world”.
“Michelena is inspired by Walter Benjamin and Alejo Carpentier to reinterpret domestic spaces and 19th century bourgeois architecture, loading them with symbolism (...) his compositions juxtapose ornamental elements with kitsch and grotesque, criticizing power structures in global spacetime,” he said.
In addition, he noted that the artistic works in question “dialogue with the spectator in the present, reflecting on the transformation of urban and private spaces and their impact on collective memory. It explores the tensions between the modern and the old, the real and the fictional, generating surreal atmospheres that challenge conventional thinking and shape stories that are not carved in stone”.
