This Wednesday, the Secretary of Street Mobilization of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nahum Fernández, highlighted President Nicolás Maduro's historic commitment to the protection, well-being and love of older adults.

“The president has always shown love for our grandparents and grandmothers; they know it and that's why today they are here, steadfast, accompanying him,” he said.

During the day Song for Peace and Liberation, organized in support of the Head of State and the First Lady Cilia Flores, he recalled that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the president made timely and decisive decisions to protect the elderly in the country, the most vulnerable sector in the world to the disease. He stressed that “President Nicolás Maduro has always thought about how to protect our elderly, applying corrective and humanistic measures that have saved lives,” which is why, he said, the people maintain with him a bond of affection and loyalty built on years of struggle for the defense of the Republic.

In his speech, he explained that the creation of a great national movement of grandparents brings together the historical memory of those who lived through the Fourth Republic, knew its inequalities and witnessed the sustained effort of the Bolivarian government to guarantee rights, stability and sovereignty. “The grandparents are well aware of what this country was like before the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez and they know what Nicolás Maduro has done to sustain it,” he said.

The secretary said that, before participating in a working meeting, he spoke with the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, about the importance of accompanying the elderly on this day. “I came to meet the grandparents and grandmothers of the Homeland to reaffirm that we are more united than ever. The Republic that we have built for years is the one that today is threatened by actors who do not love Venezuela,” he said.

He also condemned the fact that opposing sectors celebrated the attacks against the country and recalled that, in the face of these aggressions, the People remain firm in the defense of peace. “Those who love Venezuela are here, in their land, accompanying this song for peace and demanding the release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, the deputy Cilia Flores,” he said.
