Students and workers
from around 1,200 public institutions and schools participated this
Wednesday in the Mérida 2026 Seismic Simulator, a preventive and training activity that was supervised by regional and national authorities.
“The public institutions of the State are
added to this simulation, in more than
1,000 institutions in Mérida,” confirmed the governor of the entity,
Arnaldo Sánchez, who supervised the exercise at the headquarters of
Civil Protection (PC), in the Libertador municipality.
The organization
of the event makes it possible to “evaluate processes, the preparation, the response, to
continue strengthening the entire risk protection system,”
added the governor.
The
Deputy Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Oti Paituvi, congratulated the deployment of
technological and personal capacities by the institutions of the state of Mérida, with the creation of a new seismic simulation, contributing to
the culture of prevention, beyond the reaction to eventualities.
In
this regard, he stressed that the National Government instructed to bring prevention policies and
plans to school classrooms; to communities,
through community risk management brigades, as well as to
other urban spaces.
For her part, the Secretary of Education of the Government of Mérida, Mauriam Zamudia, highlighted that the annual Mérida
Earthquake Simulation event is relevant because “on a daily basis, more than 250,000 people
are in our educational institutions, including workers, teachers, administrative workers and students.”
The development of this exercise is part of the state agenda set for the week of the anniversary of the Great Andes Earthquake, an event recorded on April 28, 1894 in the state of Mérida, with an estimated magnitude of 7.0 (Mw).
