National Journalism Award announced the winners of this 2025

This Wednesday, June 25, the judging jury for the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award, comprised of Esther Quiaro, Nieves Valdez, Rosalía Barreto, Ildegar Gil and Antonio Núñez Aldazoro, announced the winners of the 2025 edition after evaluating a total of 377 applications.

In this regard, the highest award was given to journalist Helena Salcedo, for her life dedicated to communication, truth and social justice.

In addition, multiple mentions were recognized that highlight the diversity of formats and approaches to Venezuelan journalism:

  • Printed Mention: Randolph Borges, for his investigative report on the criminalization of Venezuelan migration, published in Última Noticias .

  • Radio Mention: Essequibo, Sanctuary of Life, radio series by María José Ramírez Medina, broadcast on Oyeven 106.9 FM.

  • Television Mention: Abriendo Puertas Program, hosted by Margarita Oropeza and broadcast by Venevisión.

  • Graphic Image Mention: Williams Marrero, for his coverage of the Plan Back to the Fatherland and the rescue of the girl Maikelys Espinoza.

  • Opinion Mention: Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, for his program From where it is, broadcast on La Iguana TV.

  • Cultural Journalism Mention: Resolana Magazine, from the Juan Calzadilla National School of Poetry .

  • Community and Alternative Mention: Information Focus Program, conducted by Paulo Navas and broadcast by Siguaraya Community Radio.

  • Teaching and Research Mention: Juan Eduardo Romero Jimenez, for his book The Digital Shadow.

  • Digital Journalism Mention: Nathali Gómez, for her scientific reports published on RT.

  • Instagram mention: Venezuela News, for its visual innovation in the social network.

  • TikTok mention: Amaya Carolina Carpintero Ferreira, for her complaint of the kidnapping of the girl Maikelys Espinoza.

  • YouTube mention: Conscience TV, for his documentary Humberto Fernandez Morán: Science for Life.

  • Telegram mention: Mission Truth, for its multipolar geopolitical analysis.

  • Podcast Mention: “Reverse Psychology”, video podcast by Fernando Guliani on ExtraNews.

The judging jury for the National Journalism Award highlighted that “a large part of the works nominated in all the mentions have their correlation on social media, such as Instagram and TikTok, reflecting the evolution of journalism in the digital environment”.

They also recognized the creativity and commitment of young communicators who have been able to adapt to new technologies, using them as tools for the defense of timely and truthful information, at a time when technofeudalism seeks to impose algorithms that distort reality and limit the exercise of journalism.
