Reflecting the strong commitment of the National Government to the development and projection of young athletes, the Venezuelan athletics delegation completed an extraordinary performance in the first Ibero-American Under-20 Championship held in Lima, Peru, after winning a total of seven medals: five gold and two bronze.
This historic result successfully consolidates the preparation of Venezuelan athletes for their participation in the world event of the category in Oregon, United States.
The continental day was marked by the spirit of resilience of figures such as the Mirandino Orlando Fernández, who won the gold medal when throwing a javelin with a mark of 69.85 meters after overcoming a prolonged injury, and the capital's Brendan Pérez, who defied previous physical discomfort to be crowned champion in the triple jump with a record of 16.38 meters, setting a new personal record and national under-20 record.
The winning streak of the national tricolor extended with the outstanding participation of Ariff Pérez from Carabobeño, who established himself as the greatest exponent of multiple events by winning the gold medal in the decathlon with a total of 7,302 points, and also managing to set personal records in the 100-meter and bullet shooting modalities.
In addition, the versatile specialist brought his speed to seal the victory in the mixed relay with Michael Palma, Orihana Guzmán and Valeria Uriepero, confirming the emergence of new faces of Venezuelan speed.
