The native American of the Diné people, James Jackson, together with leaders belonging to the Navajo Amerindian community, have expressed their support for deported immigrants, in a kind of historical and cultural connection.
Jackson asserted that the recent immigration raids are “shameful” and have generated an environment of fear in the country, limiting the mobility and freedom of residents.
“Nobody is illegal on stolen land,” he stressed, adding that the history of indigenous peoples is marked by dispossession and the struggle for survival.
This perspective resonates with many within the Navajo community, who see parallels between their own history of colonization and the experiences of immigrants seeking refuge in the United States.
State Senator Theresa Hatathlie (Democrat, Arizona) also expressed support for immigrants, arguing that anti-immigration tactics go against indigenous values that promote hospitality and respect for all.
