An Ipsos poll for the financial weekly Tribune Dimanche revealed that nearly 70% of French people disapprove of President Emmanuel Macron's management, while 67% reject the performance of Prime Minister François Bayrou.
The survey replicated by Telesur, conducted on April 9 and 10 to about a thousand people, shows a continuous deterioration in the image of both leaders with a margin of error of 1.4 percentage points.
Regarding preferences for the 2027 presidential elections, Jordan Bardella, from the National Group, leads the polls with 34%, followed by Marine Le Pen 33% and former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe 31%.
Macron's popularity reached its lowest point in January, with a rejection of 80%, a level not seen since the Yellow Vest crisis in late 2019.
The deterioration in the Prime Minister's image is directly linked to the revival of the abuse scandal at the Catholic school of Bétharram, in the region of Aquitaine (southwest), during his tenure as Minister of Education (1993-1997), in addition to the controversial pension reform raising the retirement age to 64, despite promises of dialogue.
On May 14, Bayrou will appear before a parliamentary committee investigating the accusations of cover-up, after an ex-gendarme revealed that a magistrate told him about his alleged “intervention” to protect a priest accused of rape in 1998.
