During the session of the Security Council of the United Nations held this Tuesday, December 23, Jaime Hermida, Nicaragua's ambassador to this body, denounced the aggressions that the United States (US) government is carrying out against Venezuela, in flagrant violation of international law.
“Nicaragua categorically denounces acts of modern piracy, in this case, the looting of Venezuela's resources,” he pointed out and maintained that “the kidnapping of oil tankers and the dispossession of financial assets undermine the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people and constitute a dangerous attack on peace and stability in the entire region.”
After noting that “Venezuela is not alone”, the Nicaraguan diplomat pointed out that “in the Security Council and the United Nations and the UN, they have an obligation to safeguard international peace and security and cannot be a passive spectator to the looting of a member country.”
“The defense of Venezuelan sovereignty is the defense of the Charter of the United Nations, of international law, of the principle of non-intervention and self-determination, of the right of all peoples to build their own destiny without foreign intervention, without threats or the use of force in international relations,” he said.
