The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, spoke out against the military operations of the United States (USA) in the Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela. The president read the Mexican Constitution to reiterate that the defense of the sovereignty of peoples and the peaceful resolution of disputes are fundamental principles of her government.

“No to interventionism, that's not only conviction but it's in the Constitution... Everything is resolved with dialogue,” said the president during her usual press conference.

Last Saturday, August 16, the United States began deploying ships south of the Caribbean Sea for the supposed purpose of “combating drug trafficking”.

However, press reports revealed that the operation would intensify with the deployment of warships, spy planes and at least one attack submarine, together with the mobilization of some 4,000 troops.

Faced with the situation, President Nicolás Maduro condemned Washington's actions, and reaffirmed the commitment to defend seas, skies and lands. “No empire is going to come to touch sacred ground in Venezuela nor should it touch sacred soil in South America.”

Likewise, the sectoral vice-president for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, confirmed that Venezuelan troops have also been deployed in the area and accused the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of being the “only drug cartel that operates in the light of the whole world.”
