Ombudsman held a working meeting with the governor of the state of La Guaira

The Ombudsman, Eglée González Lobato, held a working meeting with the governor of the state of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán, with the objective of strengthening institutional capacities and coordinating strategies in the area of recovery, strategic governance and risk management.

Everardo Murillo, consultant specializing in Strategic Governance and Risk and Disaster Management, was present at this meeting, invited by the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT) to Venezuela to offer his expertise in managing emergencies in the face of natural disasters such as the one that occurred on June 24.

Together, they evaluated mechanisms aimed at ensuring a timely and comprehensive response for affected communities.

During the meeting, González Lobato ratified the institutional commitment to accompany local authorities technically and in the territory throughout the contingency and reconstruction process.

“As the Ombudsman's Office, we will be following them closely and on site. Although it sounds difficult, we must see it as an opportunity to rebuild a country that was already hit, but we have the courage and resilience that the people of Guaíra are teaching us,” he said.

As part of the agenda in the entity, the head of the Ombudsman's Office and the specialist Everardo Murillo, together with Dhana Jiménez, representative of IFIT in Venezuela, and Bruno Gallo, delegate of the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, held a direct meeting with the Network of Survivors of La Guaira, led by Carlos Texeira.

In this space for dialogue, the community network presented the main challenges they face in terms of housing, services and social care, as well as the priority needs to advance the stabilization of the area.

The Office of the Ombudsman reiterated its willingness to maintain open communication channels with civil society to channel and ensure respect for the fundamental guarantees of affected families.
