ONCDOFT and Venezuela's Real Estate Chamber establish strategic alliance to strengthen financial crime prevention

The National Office against Organized Crime and Terrorism Financing (ONCDOFT), and the Venezuelan Real Estate Chamber (CIV), held a meeting called “Compliance and Effectiveness in the Real Estate Sector in Preventing Money Laundering, Financing Terrorism and Financing the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The activity took place in the Simón Bolívar Room of the ONCDOFT, with the participation of the president of the CIV, Pablo González Travieso, the general manager of that organization, Enrique Rodríguez, his legal advisor, Oswaldo Ablán, and the treasurer, César López.
In addition, according to a press release, representatives of the State Real Estate Chambers and the most important real estate agencies in the country were present virtually.
The meeting was suitable for presenting the phases that make up the plan designed by Oncdoft, for the supervision and training, gradually, of the real estate sector. In the same way, it clarified concerns related to the Unified Register of Obligated Subjects (RUSSIAN).
In this context, the director general against Money Laundering of ONCDOFT, Óscar Gutiérrez, highlighted the importance of having an honest record of real estate agencies that do business in the country.
In that regard, he explained that this makes it possible to serve the sector with a risk-based approach, thus mitigating vulnerabilities and providing transparency to the financial system.
For her part, the director of the Supervision and Registration of Designated Non-Financial Activities and Professions and Non-Profit Organization, Lorena González, addressed questions regarding risk-based evaluation. In addition, he highlighted the importance of incorporating the sector into the preparation of Customer Due Diligence (DDC), to keep records updated in the daily exercise of real estate brokerage and to implement other preventive measures.
