Orangys Jiménez flew in the 200-meter final and won the medal in the South American Championship (+record)

The Venezuelan Orangys Jiménez, with at least two lengths ahead, crossed the finish line in the 200-meter final to win the gold medal in athletics at the Santa Fe South American Games.

The Sucrense sprinter dominated the race with a time of 22.63, beating Ecuador's Nicole Caicedon (22.95) and Brazil's Ana de Jesús Azevedo (23.26).

The Venezuelan crossed the finish line at least 10 meters ahead and setting a championship record and personal record at 22.63.

“I felt so good, so comfortable. I started as my coach and I agreed, without despairing in the corner, I know that I have a good shot and I came out with them until 100 and there I made my changes that I had been working on and the result came out,” said the three-time champion.

Jiménez took off straight to the finish line for gold, first exceeding the initial 100 meters, when only Colombia's Marlet Ospina, who was coming from four, and Anaí Suárez were right behind.

At this point, the Venezuelan woman did not slow down, although there was a movement in the chasing runners. Ana de Jesús re-entered the fight and was joined by the Ecuadorian Nicole Caicedo, who, despite the effort to overtake the Venezuelan, failed to do so.

Orangys Jiménez's performance transcends Creole history as she was the first Venezuelan to win three speed titles in an edition of the South American Games.
