On Tuesday, the Organization of American Historians (OAH), approved by a large majority a resolution condemning Israel for committing “scholasticide” in the Gaza Strip, in reference to the systematic destruction of educational institutions and Palestinian knowledge.

The term “scholasticide” is coined by human rights academics as part of a complaint about the Israeli regime's deliberate attack on universities, schools, libraries and research centers in Gaza, as part of its genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

More than 80% of schools and all universities in Gaza have been bombed or seriously damaged since October 2023, details a report quoted by Hispantv.

The OAH resolution, backed by 104 votes in favor to only 25 against during the annual meeting held in Chicago, denounces that Israel is “erasing the academic future of an entire generation” in Gaza, violating not only international law, but also the basic principles of intellectual freedom.

“(Israel) has made it impossible to practice history in Gaza by systematically eliminating its professionals and institutions,” the organization details.
