The astronauts of the Artemis II mission star in an unprecedented event in modern exploration when they observe a total solar eclipse from the far side of the Moon. This event marks the return of human presence to lunar orbit after more than half a century, validating the technical capacity of the current space infrastructure.
During a critical flyby, the four Artemis II astronauts were able to observe the solar corona without interference from the Earth's atmosphere.
Astronaut Victor Glover described the experience as an unprecedented moment, stressing the importance of having captured this phenomenon more than 400,000 kilometers from Earth.
Beyond the visual value, this event confirms the precision in navigation and the optimal performance of the Orion capsule systems on the far side of the Moon. After successfully completing this phase of the mission, the ship has formally begun its return trajectory. The amerization is expected to take place this April 10 in waters of the Pacific Ocean, thus completing one of the most ambitious stages of the Artemis program.
