Pope Francis was a friend of Venezuela, he always rejected attacks against our country through sanctions, said Defense Minister G/J Vladimir Padrino López during a liturgical ceremony celebrated in honor of the departure of the Supreme Pontiff.
“We observed the Pope's attitude towards Venezuela. He permanently rejected aggression against Venezuela through sanctions and established a clear position of world imperialism based on peace and the sovereign equality of the peoples of the entire world,” said Padrino López.
In this regard, he stressed that Francis was always emphatic in saying that wars and the impositions of the great powers on small countries were not necessary. “It had an inclusive message,” he emphasized.
In addition, a senior military official assured that the Holy Father, during his papacy, understood the church's debt to our country and therefore approved the canonization of José Gregorio Hernández and mother Carmen Rendiles.
“From Venezuela there is a feeling of gratitude, of admiration, of gratitude to the Pope,” he said.
The senior military officer also highlighted Francisco's legacy of humanism, humility and faith. “He left a very high bar, very difficult to overcome, with his message, with his humility. He made a great interreligious effort, he was a man of dialogue and one of his messages was that this way we could overcome our differences of any kind,” he stressed.
“Without a doubt, there will be a time before Pope Francis and a time after Pope Francis,” he concluded.
