This Saturday, the Palestinian Information Center reported that the Israeli Zionist Army carried out 102 demolition operations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem and that during the first three months of this year, hostile actions have continued.
According to the organization, this first quarter reflects a worrying escalation in the destruction of Palestinian infrastructure, consolidating January as the most critical period with almost 30 facilities demolished, mainly in the governorates of Hebron, Ramallah and Nablus.
In East Jerusalem, the demolitions were concentrated in strategic neighborhoods such as Silwan and Beit Hanina. The Israeli administration justifies these actions by alleging the lack of construction permits; however, the Palestinian community and various international organizations maintain that obtaining such authorizations is practically impossible due to the restrictive urban planning policies imposed by the occupying authorities.
Added to this problem is the demolition of homes of Palestinians accused of attacks against Israel, a measure that the Israeli Government defends as a “key deterrent” tool.
On the contrary, those affected and human rights defenders condemn this practice, describing it as collective punishment, since it leaves entire families who were not involved in the incidents homeless.
The systematic destruction of structures in the occupied territories continues to be one of the points of greatest friction in the conflict. While local authorities keep monitoring forced displacements, human rights organizations reiterate their call to the international community to curb a policy that deepens the humanitarian crisis and hinders any negotiated solution in the region.
