This Friday, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) urged the Government of the United States (USA) to remove Cuba from its list of countries supposedly “sponsors of terrorism”, in addition to reiterating its rejection of unilateral coercive measures, which it considers contrary to international law and harmful to the development of peoples.

“A few days after the outgoing government of the United States asserted that its agencies had no evidence to keep Cuba on that list and proceeded to withdraw, the new government ordered its reinstatement,” the Parlatino criticized in a statement.

The Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) once again urges the United States government to exclude the Republic of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Historically, PARLATINO has opposed the use of unilateral coercive measures, considering them contrary to international law, as ratified in the declaration of the 38th Ordinary Assembly in December 2024. In addition, PARLATINO has repeatedly rejected the inclusion of Cuba in that list, describing it as unfair and baseless.

A few days after the outgoing government of the United States asserted that its agencies had no evidence to keep Cuba on that list and proceeded to withdraw, the new government ordered its reinstatement.

The PARLATINO recalled that the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in this unilateral list seeks to protect the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on that country for more than six decades, despite the fact that every year the United Nations General Assembly calls for its lifting since 1992. This policy of economic suffocation causes serious material damage, fuels emigration, violates the right to development of the Cuban people and has an extraterritorial character, affecting third parties in their commercial or financial relations with Cuba.
