Peru experienced intense seismic activity in the last few hours, affecting both the Amazon region and the country's central coast. The largest movement, of 5.9, had its epicenter in the department of Loreto, specifically in the Amazon area,.

The depth of the event generated a perception of shock in various locations. Almost simultaneously, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred in Lima, with an epicenter in Callao, activating preventive evacuation protocols in the Peruvian capital.

The authorities of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that the earthquake in the east of the country was located at a considerable depth, which mitigated the destructive impact on the surface, although the population reported moments of alarm.

For its part, the movement in the capital, despite its lower intensity, was clearly perceived in the tall buildings of the metropolitan area. So far, the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) has not reported serious material damage or personal casualties, maintaining constant monitoring in the affected areas.

Faced with the persistence of these events, Civil Defense agencies have reiterated to citizens the importance of staying calm and having emergency backpacks ready.

Peru is located in the Pacific Fire Belt, an area of high tectonic activity, so government institutions remain under surveillance to coordinate any immediate response to possible aftershocks or new earthquakes in the national territory.
