The President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, highlighted the importance of peace in the region in the world at the 8th meeting of Heads and Heads of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
In this regard, he referred to the genocide by Gaza by Israel, which is supported by Germany, France, the United States, the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom and the United States.
“It is showing us genocide before our eyes, it is not the old dynamic between the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that is being shown today, but also that these countries support throwing bombs on people but they want to give a demonstration about all humanity,” he denounced from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
In this regard, he said that the hegemonic forces want to show their military power while warning that what is happening in Palestine “can happen to any of you if you dare to make your changes without your permission and here is the first danger to Latin America and the Caribbean.”
In addition, he pointed out that Colombia is one of the most violent countries in the region “even more so than where direct war occurs,” while denouncing that Latin Americans have been victims of genocide in the region.
“We have experienced a genocide of one million Latin Americans in the last half century, most of those dead are Colombians, but increasingly they are Venezuelans, Peruvians, Mexicans, South Americans and Latin Americans,” he said.
He explained that these murders are due to the migration of men and women who arrive at the North American border or many die along the way.
In this regard, he pointed out that one of the migratory realities has to do with drug trafficking and emphasized fentanyl, which has caused many deaths, especially in the United States.
He called for “changing policies, peace in our region is the political, economic and military autonomy of Latin America and the Caribbean,” he stressed.
