Workers and unions of Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) protested this Thursday in front of the company's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro to request that oil be authorized to be shipped to Cuba in the face of the island's energy crisis.

Leandro Lanfredi, leader of the Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP), called for an immediate decision.

“We are here to demand that the Brazilian Government and Petrobras urgently send oil and fuel to Cuba, that they do not accept this illegal blockade committed by the United States and that they stand in solidarity with a sister people in Latin America,” he told Sputnik.

The demonstrators delivered a letter to the company's president. Lanfredi said that the volume required by Cuba would be minimal for the oil company, which produces three million barrels a day.

He also questioned the lack of action by the Brazilian Government and argued that the situation requires concrete measures.
