Pitcher Wilmer Font of the Caracas Lions won the Player of the Week award

Venezuelan Wilmer Font, pitcher for the Caracas Lions, won the Player of the Week award in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
The right-hander won two of the team's three victories in the eighth week of the qualifying round, to win recognition for the first time in his career, LVBP press reports.
This is the first time since the seventh week of the 2023-2024 season that a pitcher has won the award in the LVBP. On that occasion it was the Cuban Ariel Miranda, with Tiburones de La Guaira.
Font led the recent seventies in victories, strikeouts (10) and was co-leader in innings pitched (11.0 with Osmer Morales, of the Margarita Braves). Meanwhile, he compiled a brilliant effectiveness of 1.64 and WHIP of 0.91.
He also improved his effectiveness in the recent three outings to 1.06 and the WHIP to 0.88 in 17.0 episodes, with a ratio of 14 fans and four tickets, in addition to a 2-0 record in that period.
The coastal player (38%) won a close vote, accompanied by José Pirela (25%) from Águilas del Zulia and Bryan Mata (15%) from Navegantes del Magallanes.
Alexi Amarista, Gorkys Hernández, Wilson García and Renato Núñez were also considered by the accredited press to cover the events of the contest.
