The Secretariat of Public Security of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, reported the crash of a small plane in the tourist city of Gramado, which left nine people dead this Sunday.

The agency explained that the victims were traveling in a Piper Cheyenne 400 turboprop, which crashed into the chimney of a building in the morning, “then into the second floor of a house and then fell on a furniture store.”

They also reported that 15 other people were taken to the local hospital for having inhaled smoke from the fire that caused the accident, which was later controlled by firefighters.

“Unfortunately, initial information indicates that the occupants of the plane did not survive,” the state governor, Eduardo Leite, said in his X account, who said that the plane had taken off from the municipality of Canela, another tourist destination in Rio Grande do Sul.
