During the traditional Urbi et Orbi message this Easter Sunday, Pope Leo XIV made a fervent call to the international community to put an end to the armed conflicts that plague humanity.
Before more than 60,000 faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square, the Supreme Pontiff urged us to seek an authentic peace that is not imposed by force of arms, but that emerges through encounter and mutual understanding between nations.
From the central lodge of the Vatican Basilica, the Bishop of Rome implored those in power to lay down their arms and choose the path of diplomacy. “May those who have the power to wage wars choose peace! Not a peace forged by force, but by dialogue!” , he expressed forcefully, stressing that true stability is not born of the desire for domination, but of the will to recognize the other and abandon the hatred and indifference that mark the current era.
The Pope also denounced the multiple ways in which “death lurks” in the contemporary world, linking war violence with social crises. In his speech, he noted that the pain of wars is also manifested in the oppression of the poor, partisan selfishness and injustice.
According to the Holy See statement, the Pontiff deeply regretted the abuses that “crush the weakest” and the cry of pain that comes from the lack of empathy for the most vulnerable sectors of society.
Finally, the message of Leo XIV reaffirmed the Church's commitment to the protection of life in the face of the wounds that today's world suffers. At the conclusion of the apostolic blessing, the Pope asked God to grant his peace to a fragmented planet, recalling that overcoming violence requires a profound transformation of the human heart to replace conflict with a culture of encounter that guarantees a dignified future for all humanity.
