Pope Leo XIV presented this Monday the first encyclical of his pontificate, entitled Magnifica Humanitas, a document of the Church dedicated to the protection of the human person against the challenges of artificial intelligence. The Holy See emphasized that the publication of this text coincides with the 135th anniversary of Leo XIII's encyclical Rerum Novarum, a fundamental document that historically addressed social and labor issues.

The pontiff emphasized in the letter that technology is not hostile to human beings nor should it be considered an evil in and of itself, although he emphasized that it is not neutral.

In this regard, the document points out that innovation takes the form of those who design and use it, which is why courageous co-responsibility is required to integrate the good and remain human, always ensuring that the inalienable dignity of each person is the central axis of any technological advance.

This encyclical marks a milestone in the management of Leo XIV, proposing an ethical roadmap for the development of new digital tools in contemporary society. The Holy See calls on world leaders and the scientific community to make decisions about the future of automation based on common well-being and Christian values.

The release of this document has generated great expectations in the academic and technological sectors, who are already analyzing the scope of these Vatican guidelines. It is expected that in the coming months, international forums will be held to discuss how to implement these recommendations in global public policies and in the design of new digital applications that impact daily life.
