The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, described as hypocritical human rights organizations that take a selective and politicized approach, referring to the cases of Julian Assange and the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.

During a press conference in Quintana Roo, he said that they are “hypocrites, those who defend freedom of expression, what are they doing today to defend Julian Assange? What are they doing? Nothing, quiet, like mummies, nothing.”

“What are the organizations that supposedly defend journalists around the world doing with the bombing of Gaza and the death of journalists? Is there a manifesto? Not condemning, because that is not our position, but seeking a negotiated, peaceful solution to this conflict, because innocent human beings who lose their lives are involved. Enough of the hypocrisy!” , criticized López Obrador.

He argued that all this “framework of organizations supposedly independent of civil society” was created in the neoliberal period.

Australian activist Julian Assange is awaiting a court decision in the United Kingdom on his appeal against his extradition to the United States.

If extradited, Assange would face a sentence of up to 175 years in prison for exposing US war crimes.
