The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, reported this Wednesday that with regard to the elections for governors this year, the people of Guayana Essequiba will have the opportunity to elect their governor for the first time.

“This year there are governor elections and we are going to elect for the first time the governor of Guiana Essequiba, thanks to the Law approved by the National Assembly (AN) (...) Guiana Essequiba will have for the first time, by mandate of the Act, a governor elected by its people,” he said.

On the other hand, during the act of Notification of the National Assembly of the session of the legislative year, the Head of State emphasized the need to strengthen the country's defense capacity; for this reason, he asked Minister Vladimir Padrino López to appear before the AN in conjunction with the Defense Commission begin drafting the Special Act on Integral Defense Management Bodies (ODI).

He reaffirmed that Venezuela has the right to defend itself against the aggressions and threats of terrorist groups, despite what they say in the world. “The Venezuelan State and the Venezuelan People have the right to legitimate defense against an announced coup d'etat,” he said while recalling that so far 125 foreign mercenaries have been captured.

He also took the opportunity to greet the elected judges and justices of the peace from the country's 5,297 Community Circuits. “They are wonderful, if you listened to the level of judges and justices of the peace you would be amazed, they show that values, conscience have been sown and we have an educated, cultured, professional and very valuable people in the communities,” he said.
