During his participation in the XI Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), this Monday the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, condemned the arrest of the CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov.
He noted that the Summit is broadcast on Telegram, “despite the fact that they imprisoned their president, in that policy of persecution, maximum pressure, blackmail to twist the arm of the social networks and alternative communication that exist in the world.”
The Dignitary stated that the arbitrary arrest of Durov represents “the abuse of power in the world, pursuing to subdue”, referring to US imperialism and its allies.
Durov, a Russian national, was the subject of an arrest warrant in France as part of a preliminary police investigation. According to French media, the investigation focuses on the lack of moderators on Telegram.
