The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, this Monday, May 26, reported that he evaluated the Constitutional Reform proposal with the Presidential Commission, “the first debate that has emerged is encouraging.”
“Reforming the Constitution of 1999 is a great responsibility, we must achieve a process that has to be done in a profound way,” he said during the 80th edition of his program “With Maduro+”.
He stressed that “I proposed that what has been prepared so far be refined, expanded and debated. So that in the year 2026, the new National Assembly will convene the referendum so that the People decide on the reforms corresponding to our current Constitution.”
In this sense, he considered it necessary to “adapt our current Constitution to the new circumstances, to update it in the great civilizing, cultural and technological battle that humanity is experiencing”.
To this end, he said that “above all, young people must be summoned to be taken over by them, because we are building this Homeland for them”.
