President Maduro: Economic genocide was committed against Venezuela

During his Annual Message to the Nation, the President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro denounced that during these years imperialism and its lackeys have committed an “economic genocide” against our Homeland, referring to the amount of losses that Venezuela has had as a result of sanctions and the blockade.

In this regard, he explained that since 2015, when the economic war against Venezuela began, oil production fell by 87%. “There was no funding anywhere in the world, the doors of all oil equipment and spare parts were closed, reaching its lowest level in 2020 at 339 thousand barrels per day, compared to the 2.5 million barrels we were producing in January 2015 (...). Because of the sanctions, persecution and blockade, Venezuela stopped producing a total of 3,993 million barrels until 2022, which meant a loss for the country of 323 billion dollars, only in the missiles that fell in the oil industry,” he said.

In addition, he indicated that there were also total losses in the national economy between the public and private sectors between 2015 and 2022, amounting to 642 billion dollars. “A genocide, an economic massacre and those who called for sanctions against Venezuela are the culprits, those who asked for it, those who justified it and those who took it, are guilty of this genocide, of this economic massacre that Venezuela has suffered from 2015 to the present day,” he said.

At the same time, he also recognized the efforts of businessmen who, in the face of this economic genocide against the country, “also resisted heroically, to keep their companies to a minimum and now turn on the engines for a new advance”.

In view of this, he called on those at the forefront of the communication battle to make an effort to bring this information to all corners of the country. “For all of Venezuela to be aware of what we have been through, when the bombs fell next to us and opened the holes, an economic genocide was committed against Venezuela, a real economic genocide was committed against Venezuela,” he said.
