The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that it is necessary to demand compliance with the commitments signed in Copenhagen henceforth “it is a point of honor, you cannot stop there to give speeches to those who committed themselves to lowering their emissions (of pollutants), to make technological changes and to finance with billions of dollars in support of the Peoples”.
“Where is the Paris Agreement? Where are the proposals made in Copenhagen? Where are the funds to invest and mitigate the quality of life of the peoples of the world? Where are the concrete and verifiable sanctions to stop the process of general pollution of the environment, the Earth and the seas?” , he stressed.
This was stated by the head of state, during the day he led with the delegates of the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, which is being held in Caracas, to discuss the ecosocialist proposals that will emerge from the event and that will be presented at the next COP30 in Brazil.
He highlighted that powerful movements and a global consciousness have emerged that points to the urgent need to act together among all nations to stop global pollution and preserve life on the planet.
He also pointed out that humanity is not only facing an isolated climate emergency, but is facing the collapse of a system (capitalism) that has turned nature into its loot and merchandise, and that does not mind destroying it.
He also warned that the current situation is more dramatic than ever, since changes and climate justice will never come from those who caused this emergency, nor from those who deny reality, despite the convincing evidence that is manifested in daily life and in the reports of international scientific organizations.
