This Tuesday, March 26, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, said that upon receiving Commander Hugo Chávez, after his release from the Dignity Prison, the Venezuelan people created a powerful slogan, which is still fully valid: “Hope is in the street”.
In this regard, he stated that “today, as 30 years ago, hope is still on the street. Do you know what hope is? The people on foot, the revolutionary people on foot”.
During an event on the occasion of the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the release of Commander Hugo Chávez from the Prison of Dignity, in Miranda state, he stressed that “for us left-wing boys, I was a union leader in the Caracas Metro (...) we had a Bolivarian root, there was the certainty that this time would come and it came hand in hand with you, fighters”.
He recalled that during the activity with Commander Chávez, “when we grabbed Sucre Avenue, heading to Plaza Catia, people came up and touched Chávez and were chasing each other and chasing their girl or boy.”
“For me that was really impressive, our generation had never seen a leader with that impact on feeling, on the collective psyche, on spiritual strength. They could never get Chávez out of the heart of the people,” he said.
The head of state added that the founding generation was able to create a historic project with three roots, “the most powerful root, Bolivar; united to the root of Simón Rodríguez and the anti-oligarchic root of Ezequiel Zamora”.
