The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, asserted that the basis of a country and of true democracy is the organized and empowered people, who have the power of the economy.

From the Aquiles Nazoa Cultural House, during a meeting with the Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto and his team, the Head of State stressed that the Bolivarian Government is testing a new modality, which is to hand over the nation's budget and resources directly to the communities.

He asserted that people have learned to do a lot with the resources they are given. “ Resources yield 10 times more when managed by communities and now the works are not left in half, they are all finished, and they are finished with high quality,” he said.

He explained that the National Popular Consultations in Venezuela began last year with two and this year there have been four. “A Self-Government Room was established in the 5,336 Community Circuits, we call it permanent democracy, everyday democracy, everyday democracy. This is not a copy, it is the creation of the People. We are very optimistic about what we are seeing being born,” he said.

Maduro affirmed that to strengthen the creative process of the Venezuelan people there is no manual, nor dogma, that establishes what the people themselves are creating. “I am sure that the idea of a new democracy, a direct democracy, is sprouting up on all continents, because the model of democracy that was known in the last 80 years has run out because they are elite, minority and without people,” he said.

In that regard, he reiterated to the Japanese architects that the doors of Venezuela are open to work, thanked them for their visit and said that he hopes they can come more often next year.
