The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, praised this Tuesday the indelible legacy of the hero Ezequiel Zamora, one of the three roots of the revolutionary process promoted by Commander Hugo Chávez.

During a Meeting with the Communes and the General Balance of the National Popular Consultation, the Head of State stressed that at the time of General Zamora's great Army, unfortunately, “treason triumphed, the oligarchy of surnames allied itself with weak sectors that were in the Federal Revolution of Zamora, it did the intrigue fueled, the personal ambition, the ego, the personalist ambition of two or three that surrounded to Zamora and they lent themselves to his murder”.

He recalled that on January 10, 1860, in San Carlos, Cojedes State, “his legend, his myth, his strength, his spirit remained, treason prevailed and traitors and oligarchies wrote and deformed history and wanted to present how they presented Ezequiel Zamora for two centuries, as a bandit. They did the same with Pancho Villa, with Emiliano Zapata and with so many others in the history of each of our countries.”

He criticized that revolutionaries were presented as bandits, “those who seek justice, those who seek equality, those who represent the shirtless as our great Evita Perón said, those who represent ordinary men and women (...) but in history it remained (Zamora) as a legend among peoples, and it was transmitted orally from town to town and was rescued”.

The President stated that “the story reached the ears of noble people from generation after generation, until what had to happen happened, that the cause, the image, the symbol, the name and the original project of Ezequiel Zamora were resurrected with the arrival of our Commander Hugo Chávez as the undisputed leader of a revolution planned for the 21st century on February 4, 1992, that day Zamora was resurrected with his slogan: Oligarchs tremble, long live freedom!” .
