The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, stressed that the United States “with its conspiracies wanted to lead us on the path of an armed popular revolution, “but our path is the Constitutional, electoral one”.
In this regard, he recalled that since April 19, 1997, in Valencia during a Plenipotentiary Assembly of the 200 Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement, they voted unanimously to “go along the electoral path, leave behind the insurrectional path”.
“Our path is peaceful, electoral, and the insurrectional path was left behind a long time ago,” he reiterated.
This was stated during a press conference with national and international media, after the appearance before the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
The head of state stressed that this is not the first time that a Presidential Election has been tried to sabotage in recent years.
In that regard, he recalled that at the time, specifically in 2000, the Electoral System was sabotaged to prevent the elections of May 28, “that was a scandal, many of you were not born and blamed it on Chávez (...) it was part of a media coup d'etat.”
At that time, he assured that the National Electoral Council (CNE), “was very infiltrated and they sabotaged the cards of the machines, the voting machines so that there would be no elections, on July 30 there were elections and we gave a great result.”
