The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Sunday the Day of Indigenous Resistance and the Decolonization of Our America, highlighting the demand of the original peoples.
“Thanks to Commander Chávez, the Constitution guarantees the rights of our ancestral peoples, transforming discrimination into recognition, respect and pride in carrying indigenous blood,” the Head of State highlighted on his Telegram channel.
The President stated that “the heroic history of our ancestors, combined with the strength of those who came from Africa, was the special and spiritual substrate that allowed our people to form themselves as a Liberation Army to drive the Spanish Empire out of America”.
In this regard, he indicated that without the foundational rebellion of the indigenous communities “it would not have been possible to forge our independence”, so he ratified his commitment to the defense of the truth.
“We ask our ancestors to continue to fill us with their strength and their blessings. We are a deep people, an Indian and, above all, we are the future. Because the sons and daughters of Guaicaipura embody the decolonization of the Homeland!” , he said.
