The Government of Argentina announced this Thursday the closure of the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI), presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni reported.
“The decision was made to move forward in the dismantling of different institutes that serve absolutely nothing,” Adorni said, framing the closure of the agency that assists victims of discrimination, xenophobia and racism against migrants, in addition to showing the diversity and the human face of migration.
The INADI was created in 1995 by an act of Congress, depends on the Ministry of Justice and has delegations throughout the country with a workforce of 400 people employed.
This institute receives an average of 2,500 complaints a year for discrimination, according to its latest report. Most of these complaints come from the work or educational environment and are based on disability, sexual orientation or gender.
