The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, stated that he actually sent a letter to the Vatican to request its help to maintain the peace of Venezuela, referring to the letter he sent to Pope Leo XIV.

In the Digital Zone segment of broadcast number 93 of the Con Maduro+ program, he commented that he also sent a letter to the Pope to request his support in rescuing children kidnapped in the United States.

On this issue, the head of state considered that Pope Leo XIV has positioned himself as a balanced Pope, of peace and a continuation of the legacy of Pope Francis. “It's not usual in the history of the papacy to see a pope arrive and vindicate the previous pope,” he said.

He recalled that the first letter was for help to rescue the girl Maikelys Espinoza, kidnapped by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in the United States, and other Venezuelan boys and girls.

He noted that Pope Leo XIV helped to rescue the 252 Venezuelans kidnapped, disappeared and savagely tortured in the Nayib Bukele concentration camps, in El Salvador.

He also stressed that “I have great faith that Pope Leo, as I tell him in the letter I sent to him, will help Venezuela to preserve and win peace and stability. Help Venezuela and Pope Leo XIV embrace Venezuela with his word, with his blessings.”
