The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced this Thursday the creation of the Bahia Aerospace Technology Park, which will be built in the city of Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia (northeast).

The Brazilian Government highlighted in a statement that the park represents the country's entry into the aerospace market, a sector with an estimated turnover of more than 800 billion dollars in 2023.

The park, which will be located at the Salvador Air Base, is the result of an agreement between that state and the Integrated Manufacturing and Technology Center of the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai Cimatec, for its acronym in Portuguese), a reference center in innovation and information technology.

The space is intended to promote education, carry out advanced research and promote innovation in the aerospace field, in the areas of aeronautical engineering, research, academic training and labor.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement, the Brazilian president stressed that the northeastern part of the country should be known for its conquests and not for its social problems.

“Science is back. Building an Aerospace Technology Park in Salvador means decentralizing research and development of a cutting-edge industry. It means making the Northeast a center for the dissemination of advanced technologies for Brazil and the world, and more and better jobs,” emphasized the president in his account on the social network X.

The park's areas of action will be divided into four chapters: space, defense, advanced air mobility and commercial aeronautics. Among the topics to be developed are advanced flight and air traffic control systems; aerospace engineering systems, new energy and propulsion technologies, and aerospace cybersecurity.

In the same way, Lula da Silva stressed that the Northeastern region has the capacity to promote Brazil's energy transition.
