The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, interrupted her morning conference this Friday, January 2, due to the activation of the earthquake alert due to an earthquake of magnitude 6.5.

The cameras of the official broadcast recorded the moment when the president and the staff present carried out the evacuation of the Treasury Hall calmly, following established security protocols.

The head of state reported that the epicenter was located 15 kilometers southwest of San Marcos, in the state of Guerrero. During his report, Sheinbaum details that he immediately contacted the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, who convened the Civil Protection Council to evaluate the situation in the area around the epicenter.

The president also confirmed that the first helicopter overflight in Mexico City yielded no reports of structural damage or injuries.

In that regard, Sheinbaum confirmed that the overflights of Condor helicopters in Mexico City did not detect structural damage or injured people.
