The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, proposed on Tuesday that the National Executive confirm the revocation of the Venezuelan citizenship of those responsible for the theft of the company CITGO.
“I propose that an appeal be incorporated into the agreement to the National Executive to confirm the withdrawal of nationality to those who do not respect their nationality: José Ignacio Hernández, Dinora Figuera, Carlos Vecchio, Juan Guaidó and Horacio Medina, the main leaders of the gigantic robbery of CITGO,” Rodríguez said during the regular session.
The parliamentarian based his proposal on article 130 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which establishes the duty of Venezuelans to honor and defend the homeland, its symbols, cultural values, sovereignty, nationality, territorial integrity, self-determination and interests of the nation. He recalled that this article opens the tenth chapter of the Magna Carta, entitled “On Duties”, and constitutes the basis of the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law.
“Fulfilling one's duties is not an option or an alternative, it's a constitutional obligation. Those who do not protect the sovereignty and interests of the nation are denying their status as Venezuelan,” Rodríguez said. In that regard, he insisted that it is not enough to have been born in Venezuela, but that it is essential to protect sovereignty and national integrity.
