The president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nicolás Maduro, assured that “we are defeating a coup d'etat in the country.” This was stated in the afternoon of Monday, August 19, in the middle of a press conference held after a meeting with the National Directorate of the Red Awning and the Great Patriotic Pole Simon Bolivar (GPPSB).
The leader of the PSUV noted that “poor of those who allow themselves to be carried away by the narrative that seeks to justify a coup d'etat and the establishment of a violent and hateful regime in Venezuela.” He explained that what happened in the country “was a cyber coup d'etat, while in 2002 it became clear to the world that it was a media coup d'etat.”
In his words, he recalled how in 2012 the coup d'etat was directed from a television channel in Venezuela on a mountain in Caracas. “We haven't forgotten! It was a fascist coup by Pedro Carmona Estanga, led by the oligarchies and the world right led by José María Aznar, former president of Spain”.
In this vein, the president of the PSUV stated that “22 years later there are many lessons we have learned and if at that time we had an eminently defensive tactic and today it is a popular civic-military-popular offensive. Today we have the permanent initiative.”
