The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasized this Friday the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Persian Gulf during a telephone conversation to mitigate the military escalation in the region and its serious global consequences.

The Kremlin reported that the parties discussed the conflict in Western Asia, stressing the need to seek peace agreements that consider the legitimate interests of all countries. They warned that the clashes have serious negative consequences not only at the regional level, but also on a global scale, affecting energy, trade and logistics.

At another point, the Kremlin statement noted attempts by the Kiev regime to attack gas transportation infrastructure between Russia and Türkiye, as well as commercial vessels in the Black Sea. The leaders stressed the importance of coordinating measures to ensure comprehensive security in this strategic region and protect shared interests.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Putin thanked Erdogan for his willingness to facilitate the negotiation process, underlining the role of Türkiye as a mediator. The leaders also discussed new actions to expand bilateral political, commercial and economic relations, including joint strategic projects in the energy sector, in the context of the current escalation in the Persian Gulf.

This dialogue comes at a time of continuous military escalation in the region. Since February 28, the United States and Israel have carried out attacks against Iran, resulting in the killing of at least 1,500 civilians and injuring thousands of citizens. In response, Iran has attacked targets inside occupied territories and against US military installations, intensifying geopolitical tension.

This military escalation between the United States, Israel and Iran has exacerbated the already volatile situation in the Middle East. Cross-attacks not only increase casualties, but they also threaten to further destabilize regional geopolitics, fueling Moscow and Ankara's concern about international ramifications. The absence of an effective diplomatic solution to these tensions could lead to a larger conflict, affecting shipping routes and the global energy supply.

Energy collaboration between Russia and Türkiye is of strategic importance in this scenario of geopolitical uncertainty. The implementation of joint projects in this sector not only seeks to ensure supply and distribution for both countries, but also to consolidate their influence in Eurasian energy markets. This cooperation strengthens their economic ties and provides a platform for future bilateral agreements that seek stability in a complex regional environment.
