As part of the celebration of the Day of Indigenous Resistance, the indigenous communities presented to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, a manifesto that expresses their collective commitment to sovereignty, memory and life.

Yukpa leader María Romero, from the Sierra de Perijá, read the document that reaffirms the historic struggle of indigenous peoples and denounces external threats to national sovereignty.

The text categorically rejects the U.S. military presence in the Caribbean, calling it a direct threat to regional peace and a violation of international rights.

The manifesto also denounces the sanctions and blockades imposed by the United States government, highlighting their direct impact on indigenous peoples and the full exercise of their rights. “They will not succeed in defeating us. Here we are standing,” Romero said, reiterating his unanimous support for President Nicolás Maduro and for the defense of the homeland.

The leader concluded her speech with a call for the complete decolonization of America and for the active resistance of indigenous peoples.
