In Argentina, renowned broadcaster Elizabeth “la Negra” Vernaci used the air of her show Negrópolis on Radio Pop to denounce the impact of the recent labor reform, confirming her own disengagement and that of her colleague Lizy Tagliani.
During his speech, Vernaci warned about the critical situation of formal employment in Argentina, stating that under the current administration of Javier Milei, a job has been lost every four minutes.
The driver detailed an alarming list of cuts in companies in various sectors, ranging from the automotive and metal industries to mass consumption, evidencing a crisis that already transcends the public sector.
The number of people affected in the private sector is overwhelming, with hundreds of layoffs in emblematic firms such as Fate, ILVA, Whirlpool and Newsan, among others. According to the analysis presented, this dynamic is not limited to the 60,000 civil servants displaced under the rhetoric of adjustment to the “caste”, but rather responds to a scenario of falling domestic consumption, the appreciation of the exchange rate and trade opening.
This scenario has left workers in sectors as diverse as the TN Platex textile company or the Acerías Berisso metallurgical company in a situation of extreme vulnerability.
Finally, the statistical picture reinforces the seriousness of the complaint: unemployment in Argentina already reaches 7.5% of the Economically Active Population (PEA). In the last two years, the number of unemployed people has increased by nearly 400,000 people, bringing the national total to 1.7 million unemployed citizens.
The departure of communication figures such as Vernaci and Tagliani thus becomes a visible symbol of a structural problem that affects both the media industry and the country's productive engine.
