The Republican congressman of the United States (US) House of Representatives, Scott Perry, accused USAID of funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram, Daesh and Al-Qaeda, in statements to the media after the first hearing of the Subcommittee on Government Efficiency.
The legislator revealed that USAID allocated 697 million dollars annually, along with direct cash transfers, to finance terrorist training camps and extremist groups.
“Who gets part of that money? His money, 697 million dollars annually, in addition to cash transfers, goes to Daesh, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram and Daesh in Khorasan. That's what's being funded,” Perry said during his speech, in a message addressed to North American taxpayers.
The congressman also criticized USAID's allocation of 136 million dollars for the construction of 120 schools in Pakistan, claiming that there is “no evidence” that they were built.
These accusations align with criticism from President Donald Trump, who in the past has called for the closure of USAID, accusing it of corruption.
