The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unit (URNG-MAIZ) welcomed the electoral process held in Venezuela last Sunday, May 25, in which the Revolutionary Forces won most of the disputed positions.

In a statement, URNG-MAIZ expressed its satisfaction with the victory of the Great Patriotic Pole and congratulated the Venezuelan people for exercising their right to vote, and highlighted the nation's climate of peace.

“As international electoral observers, we have found that the Venezuelan people exercised their right to vote in a free and sovereign manner, in an atmosphere of joy and absolute peace,” the statement reads.

He also added that despite the call for abstention made by different representatives of the right, Venezuelans went to the polls to decide their future, “which represents a symbol of patriotism and a challenge to the interests of oil corporations linked to North American imperialism, who consider Guyana as a strategic base in their policy against Venezuela.”

Finally, he noted that “during our observation, we were able to confirm that Venezuela has a unique electoral system, recognized as one of the most reliable and transparent in the world.”
