The Workers' Party (PT), led by the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, only achieved electoral victory in the city of Fortaleza in the last municipal elections.

According to the official count, Evandro Leitão, the PT candidate, obtained 50.38% of the votes, while André Fernandes, the candidate who supported former president Jair Bolsonaro, won 49.62% in the capital of the state of Ceará.

According to detailed information in the press, Fortaleza was one of the few cities where there was a direct confrontation between a candidate of the PT and one of the Liberal Party (PL), the electoral dispute had a narrow difference, with the left winning by less than 11,000 votes in a city with 2.4 million inhabitants.

In this sense, for the Brazilian left, the possibility that Bolsonaro's party would win this region would mean tensions for the Lula government, who had historically won the Fortaleza municipality.
