The writer from Larense, Rolando Graterol, is the winner of the 7th National Biennial of Literature Argimiro Gabaldón, with his work “Oil and Power: Foreign Interference in Venezuela 1902-1958”.
According to the verdict of the jury
composed of Diana Pérez, Christiane Valles and Cósimo Mandrillo,
Graterol's work was selected “for its sharp analysis of the historical development of the national oil
industry, which is documented with sufficient documentary sources”.
“The essay has the advantage of being written
in easy-to-understand language, which will make available to a wide reading
audience a topic of interest to each Venezuelan and of absolute
relevance to the country's current political and economic situation,” the verdict adds.
Pérez, Valles and Mandrillo highlighted the
exceptional quality of the more than 52 works examined, “which
highlights the vigour of thought and writing in Venezuela, as well as the
diversity of reflective and research lines that reveal a dense intellectual
dynamic throughout the territory, in correspondence with the humanist trajectory of Argimiro Gabaldón.”
Graterol Guzmán will receive as a prize one hundred thousand
bolivars (Bs 100,000, oo) and the publication of his work by Monte Ávila Editores.
The Argimiro Gabaldón National Literature Biennial is promoted by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC), through the National Book Center (CENAL), and is aimed at Venezuelan or foreign writers residing in the country who wish to participate with their unpublished works.
